Keeping with the pumpkin spiced theme, here is another easy recipe to add to your repertoire. Why the golden retriever you ask? Because a golden retriever and knit sweater is all any pumpkin spice concoction is missing. This delicious smoothie is packed with whole foods that make for a great pick me up any time of day. Roasted pumpkin or canned pumpkin in this recipe. The pumpkin puree doesn’t have to be frozen but it definitely makes for a better consistency. When using store bought plant milk, keep in mind the flavor and sweetness will vary. Adjust sweetness by using more or less dates depending on your taste. If you like a thicker smoothie definitely add ice, it adds a lovely milkshake like texture.
Ingredients:
1 cup pumpkin puree, frozen in ice cube trays
1 frozen, ripe banana
2-4 pitted dates depending how sweet you like it (I prefer medjool)
2 cups plant based milk of your choice, I used cashew
2 tsp hemp seeds
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice (use more or less if needed)
pinch of salt
splash of vanilla extract (optional)
3/4 cup ice (optional)
*Feel free to add a scoop of your favorite vanilla or unflavored protein powder to turn this into a great post workout meal.

Procedure:
To a blender, add all ingredients except the ice ( if adding). Blend until everything is fully combined and smooth, this takes about 30 seconds in my blender.

Add the ice and blend for another 30 second or until the ice is fully incorporated.

Taste to adjust salt or spice and serve right away. This shake goes will topped with an additional sprinkle of hemp seeds.
